Christmas lights a passion for Pictou couple

PICTOU - Clark Griswold has nothing on the Baretto family.

In fact, the beloved movie character that takes great pains to decorate his home so that it can be seen from space, should take a few pointers from Pedro and Margie Baretto before his next feature film.

The Pictou couple's home on Veteran's Drive is decorated with tens of thousands of lights, lawn ornaments, blow up decorations and musical sounds. Santa even makes a visit each evening between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. to hand out candy canes to motorist who drive by to catch a glimpse of the home.

"Parents will drive up the street and there will be cars parked both ways," said Margie. "It's amazing to me."

The Barettos have been decorating their home for Christmas for the past 30 years, but it didn't start this way. They first lived on St. Andrews Street there they put out a manger scene and some lights, but each year after Christmas they would pick up a few more decorations when they went on sale.

I have not tried it with a draw near its max of 175W but at lower draws it is fine and always runs cool, thanks to the built in fan. After a 28 hour winter power outage, I decided to get a generator to keep our housing essentials alive… like heat, refrigerator, microwave, etc. Maybe they could hook the fan to a sensor and only have it run when the unit gets hot....
